I’ve known Lori and Stacey (sisters) ever since I was in elementary school. They are some of my oldest friends, the friends I could get silly with, the friends I turned to when things were rocky, the first friends who were practically family to me. We no longer went to the same schools after elementary, and as we grew up our lives took us in different directions, but we still managed to keep in touch here and there (not insignificant feat, since neither of them are on Facebook!). Back in 2013, I was so touched to shoot Stacey’s wedding. Here we are in 2015, and I was honored to shoot Lori’s wedding. To shoot a childhood friend’s wedding is not only to be there and witness the behind the scenes of the day. It’s to bear witness to the history of the past twenty-some years since we had last spent nearly every day of our lives together. It’s to see how loved Lori and Spencer are by their community of cherished friends. It’s to see what a considerate and kind soul she’s fallen in love with. Lori is a practical woman. She rarely reveals the depths of her emotions, usually keeping things light and witty. But there was a moment during their first dance, when she clung to Spencer and the mixture of relief, gratefulness, and love was undeniable on her face, and I sighed with happiness that my dear friend had found her soul mate.
What a great idea. Bits of their vows are the decor for the wedding cake!
